Ghajn Tuffieh (pronounced eye'n toffeea). An interesting, red sand beach. The descent of 200 stone steps to reach the sand keeps many people away. . (Oils)
The small, but picturesque harbour of Wied Iz-Zurrieq is on the Southern side of the Island. Once a fishing port, now pleasure boats share the waters. Fish laden barrows are still dragged up a steep road to the village. My wife, Jane painted the harbour. (Oils)
The mysterious Hypogeum is an underground necropolis excavated in the soft Maltese rock. This prehistoric site is said to have been completed 6000 years ago. It is on several levels. Niches were cut in the walls of the tunnels to accommodate more than seven thousand individuals. The sketch shows the lowest level where ceremonies must have taken place.(Pen and Wash)
The statuette of The Sleeping Lady was found in the Hypogeum. Only 24cms in length it is a depiction of a mother goddess in eternal sleep (death). This beautiful work was created from clay. Perhaps a large-scale statue of the Sleeping Lady once stood there. (Pen and Wash)
