Stanley Villag

The military road leading to Stanley Barracks, as seen from Stanley Village. Stanley was a fishing village in the 1960s.  Now it is a tourist attraction. Families walked from their fishing junks and sampans to the Chinese market to buy fruit and vegetables. There was a temple sacred to Tin Hau, the sea goddess. (Oil Pastels)

Beyond the barracks, there is another bay. The spikey hills on its far side form The Dragon's Back. This sketch shows the dragon's head resting in the water. (Oil Pastels)

A sampan takes heavily laden boat people from Stanley Market back to their fishing junk which is moored in the harbour.        (Pem and wash sketch)_

A fishing junk in full sail.  (Sketch in  pen and coloured pencils)

A fantasia of Chinese bronze temple implements. The owls are actually containers - the heads hinge backward. The three-legged goblets are meant for wine, while the vases would hold flowers. The statue of Buddha is, as usual, sitting on a lotus bloom, the right hand is touching the earth. (Acrylics)
