Top Ten v Carrick Knowe

On Sunday 10th May the Club played host to Carrick Knowe, the Edinburgh district champions, in the Scottish Inter Counties Top Ten competition first round. Pre match research found that the visiting team was loaded with international players and some who have contested national finals. The match on the Stronvaar green was always going to be tight and it was hoped that home advantage and the distance that the opponents had travelled would be enough to see the home side through. Unfortunately this was not to be case as, despite good wins for Jimmy Anderson and John McLean in the pairs and Bobby Dalziel, Gavin McLachlan and Gary Anderson in the triples, losses in the singles by Archie Johnston and the fours by Steven Dickson, John McCormick, David Brown and Dugald Graham gave Carrick Knowe an eight shot victory to progress to round two.   

To highlight the standard of the opposition, Archie came up against Colin Mitchell who has played at international level, including the Commonwealth Games, for Scotland.
