Derrick Goode Memorial Pairs

The Club’s first competition of the 2014 season, the Derrick Goode Memorial Pairs, took place on Sunday 27th April on the Stronvaar green that was medium paced and drawing well. A good entry of members appreciated the playing surface and the sunny and warm conditions that prevailed throughout the day. The final was between the holder Robert Hendrie and one of the newest members Dougie Lang and President Jimmy Anderson and Elma McLean and this was closely contested in the opening ends and swung in Jimmy and Elma’s favour with a count of three in the penultimate end to give them a four shot lead entering the final end. This proved to be conclusive as Jimmy and Elma effectively covered all their opponents’ bowls to finish with a comfortable win. Lady President Shona Anderson presented the trophy and prizes to the finalists and semifinalists David Brown and Mairi MacDonald and George Reid and Alistair Munro.
