We assume you are attempting to close the "lid" as shown in the image here. Having got the thing high enough to remove the filter the thing then needs to be eased down past a seemingly intractable point. Grab the edges firmly at points "P" and press down with steady pressure until the thing clicks and drops into position. Good luck.
