Local Reserves

Sanctuary Barn actively and financially supports the local Wildlife Trust and the RSPB, and encourages those who stay with us to visit their local reserves.

 

We have three excellent Wildilfe Trust reserves nearby - Argill Woods (NY 839 139), just over the hill; Augill Pasture (NY 817147), near Brough; and Smardale Gill (NY 727 070), with a superb bridge walk.

 

The local RSPB Hen Harrier reserve at Geltsdale is worth a visit too - and Haweswater is famous for it's resident Golden eagle population. And watch out for curlews overhead, and black grouse "lekking" all over Teesdale and road to Tan Hill.
