Vintage Meccano !!

Meccano was the Brainchild of a Mr Frank Hornby (the same Guy who blessed us with Hornby Train sets). This modelling and constructional system was patented by him in 1901 and in 1907 the "Meccano" name was registered, the rest they say....... is history.

A 1959 - 1960 Meccano Outfit No5.

What a gem of a find this little kit was...................

........a complete Red and Green Meccano set circa 1959 - 1961 (outfit No5) complete with box, centre tin and instruction manual.

Meccano has the same constructional configuration as Mamod and Mamods accessories in relation to the standard half inch (12.7mm) spacing of the holes in all of the parts to enable construction. With this in mind a selection of Steam driven accessories are possible.

This set also came with part of Outfit No4 (not pictured) and it was, to say the least, an absolute bargain (literally a few quid).

I shall hopefully over time add to this with a good selection of other vintage Meccano components such as worm drives and bevelled gears etc.
