Mamod TEs

My collection currently carries two Mamod Traction Engines, one unfired Engine and one old and worn (but still fondly appreciated) workhorse.

The Unfired "Shelf Model".

Below is a picture of my as yet unfired Mamod TE1a. This model is in the later "Brunswick Green" and was supplied as new in around 1980 with a solid fuel burner tray. This engine has a water level sight glass on the rear of the boiler at the back of the firebox. The original box, filler funnel and steering rod extension are present.

This model sports brass boiler bands with running boards, a brass chimney cowl, scaled brass bucket and is "shod" with road tyres.

The Old Workhorse. "Dumpling"

Named so, as she came from a seller who lived in a country house called Dumpling Hall in the north of England. This little elderly TE has had some real use during its forty odd years or so. This is a meths fired example with a water level / overflow plug in the rear of the boiler where the later models have a sight glass.

The little old engine was so under powered that it could barely power itself along and has recently been in the process of receiving a complete strip and rebuild incorporating a new high power piston assembly and a complete new look.

The pictures below show this little Engine after its recent overhaul and new colour scheme. A new brass chimney cowl and road tyres complete the transformation...........
