Mamod Stationary Engines.

My current collection of Mamod Stationary Engines is quite small at the moment but by no means lacking in quality.

My collection of Mamod Stationaries currently includes:

A Minor 1

A pair of Minor 2's

An SE 1

An SE 2

An SE3

A breif description of each Engine with photographs follows................

The Mamod "Minor 1".

This little "overtype" Stationary Engine was the second Engine that I aquired during the summer of 2008. The Minor 1 was the smallest of Mamods Stationaries of the 50s, 60s and early 70s.

I aquired this Engine in its current condition and it's also a very reliable gutsy little runner with plenty of power. This little Engine is powered by means of a spirit burner.

The Mamod "Minor 2's"

This Engine is the bigger brother of the "Minor 1". This again is meths fuelled (by use of a spirit lamp burner) and from approximately the same era as my Minor 1 ( the early to mid 70s ?)

This required a full repaint when it arrived as it was a combination of purple and rust at the time that I aquired it. Again this engine is a gutsy little runner with plenty power considering its small size.

The second Minor 2 within my collection is in pretty  good original condition and complete with its original spirit burner and yet another flawless little runner......

......the decal or transfer pertaining to this little "Minor 2" is the original as can be seen on the black firebox.

Mamod "SE 1"

Quite an early example here but not early enough to have the much sought after "flat base" unfortunately!. This model has raised locating lugs on the base to accommodate the early type of green "wick" type burner.

This again has been given a full cosmetic makeover by myself and a new period replacement burner courtesy of Forest Classics.

Mamod "SE 2"

This particular Engine is still in the condition in which I aquired it, good and useable. It has the original meths burner (spirit lamp)

This Engine is a cracking little runner and this model is equipped with a steam regulator (throttle) on the back of the piston block and a nice crisp early brass whistle. This engine is one of the favourites amongst my collection.

 Mamod "SE 3"

This particular engine I think heralds from the mid 60s and was for quite some time, the Flagship of the Mamod range being twin cylindered and physically quite large.

This engine has had no work carried out on it by myself other than the replacement of the 6ba fastener for the flywheel. A great running engine with a huge brass spirit burner. A pleasure to run and extremely fast running with plenty of power also.

Superheating Facility (SE1, SE2 and SE3)

Superheating is a form of attempting to optimize the performance of these little engines. Quite simply, the steam feed pipe from the boiler passes under the boiler and through the flames of the lit spirit burner thus "Drying" the steam on its way to the piston housing.......

.....this photograph shows the steam feed pipe of my SE3 passing under the boiler, inside the firebox where the spirit burner sits.
