NARDONE CUP

In 1933 the Nardone Cup was put up by a Douglas restaurant/cafe manager of that name, to be played for by local and neighbouring juvenile teams.  The daughter of Emilio Matassi, who owned the restaurant, situated at the top of the Main St opposite the hotel, married a fellow Italian called Nardone, who put forward the trophy. The whole family moved to Dunbar on the east coast, after which the premises were bought over by Frank Graham.

Those participating included Kennox Welfare, Douglas Westonians, Douglas Corinthians, Douglas Water Hearts, Wiston Juveniles, and Trows Utd.

The 1933 final was won by Douglas Water Hearts who beat Trows Utd in the final

From all accounts the Nardone Cup was a fine piece of silverware along with individual wrist watches presented to the winning team

The following year the Cup was played for by local and neighbouring schools.  The final at Crabtree Park was won by Lesmahagow who defeated Muirkirk 5 - 3 in a very entertaining final
