SCHOOLS FOOTBALL

As is the case throughout Scotland the breeding ground for potential football players has always been the school playground or football pitch.  Schools football in Douglasdale, and the secondary schools for Douglas Primary, have continually produced players throughout the years for the amateur, juvenile, junior and senior ranks.

DR GARDNER MEMORIAL CUP

Douglas Primary School play in an annual tournament along with neighbouring schools for the Dr Ian Gardner Memorial Cup. Dr Gardner took a keen interest in the local school football and was actually taken ill whilst watching his son play; he died shortly afterwards.

Adam Lawson and Tom Cook set about raising funds for a tribute to the doctor and eventually a cup was purchased, duly inscribed, and played for to this day.
