Jimmy Marchbanks
Jimmy,I may be a bit slow on the uptake with the computer carry-on but It's been said that the old left peg could land a ball on a sixpence. But everything any of us did was for the good of the team.I think that's why Shulf pulled us all together. He could see something in players that most of us couldn't.We owe him so much, but then again,we all know that. You take care,Jimmy,& I'll see you in May along with many others

Shulf Tribute
Thanks for that Kenny.Liz & I were married in 1968 & we stayed in Mt Florida,50yds from Hampden. It was my 5th season with Meadow Thistle & we were recognised,at that time,as the best team in Lanarkshire. There were 4 cups
to play for in those days, and 1 consolation cup for teams knocked out in the early rounds of the Lanarkshire Cup
As it happened Meadow & Douglas were both knocked out of this cup.We both reached the finals of the other cups Douglas winning 3 to our 1.
Season ended!!!As I said I stayed next to Hampden & watched the Queen's Park u'age teams playing friendly games during the close season My young brother-in-law played for Queens. At one of the games I saw this group on the opposite touch line & recognised one I thought was maybe the guy who ran the Douglas team.So I moved round to where the group were standing & sheepishly asked this guy if he ran the team from Douglas. He said he was, asked me who I was &Itold him
I had played against Douglas a few times the previous season. When I told him who I was he said,in true Shulf fashion,"sorry I didn't know you with your clothes on".He was there with Ian Docherty who played with Queens at that time. We started talking about the games we had played
& why I was there.Itold him I stayed round the corner,we said our goodbyes,& left it at that.He didn't asked for my address but soon after he was at my door, all the way from Douglas, with some of the Douglas players to get me to sign.I don't have to tell any one who knew Shulf about his persuavive powers & I eventually signed for Douglas.
It was a hard decision to make after 5 seasons with The Meadow.I had so many good times there,so many great team
mates.THEN THERE WAS WEE TERRY
He did so much for me in those 5 seasons. In the 5/6 weeks before the new season started I had Tam Donald, Jackie Barrie & Wee Terry at my door in between Shulf & the Douglas guys at my door. I
didn't know if I was coming or going. My mind was made up to stay at Meadow in the week before the season started because of Tam,Jackie & most of all wee Terry.Any one who knew Terry would understand why.I phoned Shulf to tell him & thought that was that. Big mistake. You all know what Shulf was like.Just before the season started, back at the door.Right,he said, one last try.The rest,as they say,
is history.Only one regret Wee Terry!!!!!!

P.S. Kenny,I know you can't arrange a time & date in May that suits everyone but please make it BEFORE THE 19th MAY as I'm away on holiday from then.PLEASE!!!!!!
Take care Kenny

Great sentiments Tommy. I accompanied Shulf on many a trip to players doors so I know exactly what you are saying.

There was universal respect for Terry, a great wee man, from Douglas AFC and across the board in all clubs.

I will be speaking to Tam and Johnny soon, and hopefully we will get a date fixed (before 19th May)

All the best
Kenny
