James II fled the country to exile in France on 11th December 1688, and a convention Parliament in early 1689 deemed him to have abdicated. It also decided that the throne must never again be inherited by a catholic. The Bill of Rights was passed into law in 1689, making William of Orange and his wife Mary (#5 and #2 in the list immediately above) joint sovereigns and limiting the succession to William and Mary’s future issue, then failing that to Mary’s sister Anne  and her issue.
