Sunshine and Serenity

by Ashby Rambler - 15:43 on 18 July 2016

As I write, Cold Ashby is bathed in an unfamiliar combination of sunshine and near silence.

The closure of West Haddon Road, Church Lane and Crabtree Lane (apparently from 8am to 6pm for the next five days) has suddenly created an eerily quiet 'holiday retreat '.

Is this how it might have been had the offer of a free bypass been accepted years ago?

Hindsight, we know, is a wonderful (if somewhat useless) science - yet the Rambler cannot but regard the rejection of the bypass as a life-changing mistake.

Meanwhile, unless we acquire the technology to convert our now redundant telephone box into a time machine, Cold Ashby's residents can only bask in this most welcome temporary sunlight and serenity!
