THE PICTURE PALACES OF SWANSEA.
Here is a very breif history of the many picture houses that once were spread across the city centre, starting with The Carlton on Oxford street. Not one of them has screened a movie in as little as 15 yers when the Odeon Kingsway closed for conversion into a nighclub complex.
Some are still standing in some form or another.
The Carlton Cinema.The Carlton Cinema De Lux. Oxford Street. The Carlton opened on 31st January 1914 as The Carlton Cine De Lux and showed major movies until it closed on the 29th October 1977.
