ODE TO A SWAN

Most graceful of God's creatures.

You glide through the rippled water, serene,

unruffled.

Your tall majestic neck turns this way and that,

accepting as your due the flattery of your many

admirers.

Small jewelled droplets slide of your perfectly

curved back, unable to penetrate its oily surface.

A silvery flash in the water's murky depths catches

your eye, and suddenly you plunge deeply, searching

for a tasty morsel, and then as quickly you are up and

away, cutting a foamy path through the water in your wake.

On the river bank you groom your fluffy white feathers

until they shine, seeming almost transluscent under the

noonday sun.

Long may you live beautiful Swan,

to gladden the eyes of those who behold you.

THE RIVER

There's a place I love to go, where the river's in full flow.  Watch the boats go sailing past; some sedately, some quite fast.

On a lovely summer's day, teeming wildlife are at play.  Aquatic birds dive deep for food, followed by their little brood.

Willow spans the dappled path, searching for its river bath.  Thro' its foliage, bold and bright, a golden shaft of purest light.

The river with life and beauty abounds, reflecting colour from all its surrounds.  This God-given heritage was freely bestowed.  Lets treasure the good things that we've been endowed.
