Robert Mustard Ross
Robert Mustard Ross from Rosemarkie, a Lovat Scout, later attached to the Cameron Highlanders, saw action at Gallipoli, Suvla Bay and Egypt as a stretcher bearer. He was badly wounded by strafing from diving aircraft at Gallipoli, losing the sight in one eye and with shrapnel wounds to his head and right hand. He spent many months in hospital and experienced an early x-ray which “fizzed and sparked”. After his discharge, he and his wife together tried to find work in service, but it was difficult for a disabled person.
