Impact of the war
The loss of young men is clearly shown on the war memorials of which there are a number in our community.
Many others returned injured or maimed and were unable to take up their previous jobs.
Even for those who were fit, jobs were difficult to find. Many Avoch fishermen joined the mercantile service or found work abroad, including Canada.
