by Isabel Henderson download
Dr Isabel Henderson is widely acknowledged as one of the world's leading authorities on the Picts and their culture. For years another of her publications, The Picts, was one of the essential introductions to the subject. Her many studies of Pictish art - most notably The Art of the Picts - sculpture and metalwork in early medieval Scotland - have transformed understanding of early medieval artistic contacts.
This pdf is the text of the first 'Annual Academic Lecture' given on the occasion of the re-opening of Groam House Museum as a Pictish Centre for Ross and Cromarty on June 1st 1989.
Isabel Henderson's family on her father's side came from Rosemarkie and, when she retired from Cambridge Univeristy, she moved back to her roots in Easter Ross.
