Approach from EE to site a phone mast at the Village Hall
The Village Hall Management Committee has been approached by the telecommunications company, EE, who have expressed an interest in siting one of their masts at the far end of the car park to the rear of the Village Hall in order to improve the mobile signal in the area. While it is still very early days on this and it may not happen, the Committee feels there will be positive benefits to the community and is therefore in discussions with EE. Further updates will be provided as we know more.
A Change of Personnel
Gareth Rowe, who has been the Parish Council representative on the Village Hall Committee for the past two years, has come to the end of his tenure with us. Gareth has been a hugely valuable member of the team, particularly with the important grant applications and advising us on capital projects. Fortunately for us he is going to continue to help us as a non-committee member into the future with our larger projects. A big thank you to Gareth for all he has done for us.
Gareth's position has been taken up by John Sekula who recently joined the Parish Council. Many of you will know him as the Quiz Master Extraordinaire who sets the questions down at the Social Club every Thursday night. A warm welcome to John.
If you would like to join our merry team or become a volunteer for the Village Hall committee do please get in touch with us. We always need a little extra help.
Premises Licence Granted!
Great News! The Cubert Social Club has been successful with its application for a Premises Licence. The new licence covers the entire Hall and its grounds, which means that the Social Club can now serve drinks into the Hall and the car park without having to apply for a Temporary Events Notice (TEN). This flexibility is good news for the Social Club, the Village Hall and the Cubert community. In practice, the Social Club will continue to operate as a Club under the direction of its committee of volunteers and membership will still be necessary. However, if there are events in the hall, such as parties and wedding receptions, the Club will be able to operate as if it was a public house negating the need for a TEN.
Three More Improvements to The Hall
We're pleased to inform you that we have put down a new 'Altro' floor in the kitchen/bar. I'll be saying more about that very soon, but a huge thank you to everyone who helped out.
We've also made life easier for social events in the main hall by providing additional electric sockets. There are some new ones and some have been repositioned. This work, which is part of the Village Hall Ambience Project, will enable us to provide new mood lighting around the hall and spotlighting for the stage end. It will also reduce the need for so many extension leads!
Thanks too goes to Rob and Jim for soundproofing an unused door into Karen's beauty treatment room. We are hoping that noise transference from the main hall into the treatment room will now be greatly reduced.
Next Village Hall Meeting
Date Change
Due to a lot of members not being able to make the next Village Hall Committee Meeting on 29th April we have had to bring it forward to Tuesday 22nd April. They are open meetings with the first 15 minutes dedicated to meeting any parishioners who would like to raise issues with us. The meeting starts at 1.45pm.
Annual General Meeting
Due to a number of committee members being away in September this year we've brought the AGM forward by one month to August. It will take place on Tuesday 26th August at 7pm and we would love to see lots of you there.
This is an opportune moment to let you know that we are looking for volunteers to help us at The Hall and you do not have to be on the committee to do so. We are especially looking for assistance with administration and applying for grants. If you have recently retired, or maybe you have just moved into the area and are looking for something to do in the community, then helping us out might be just the thing you are looking for.
A Few More Jobs Done
Many thanks to Rob and Jim for sorting out a gutter leak at the back of the storerooms and thanks again to Rob for fixing the door to storeroom 3 which had lost its wind brace. The brace stops the door from blowing back against its hinges in strong winds and so was a very important repair. I also see that the new storeroom in the hall now has a door!
In the next couple of months we are having some additional electrical sockets fitted around The Hall. This is to help us with our project to improve the ambience of The Hall for when we hold social events.
A Few Polite Requests From Us
TOILETS Unfortunately, some person flushed a J Cloth down one of the toilet pans causing a blockage. We had to call out Pellows to unblock it. Apart from the unmentionables, the only thing that can be safely flushed down the pan is toilet tissue paper. Compliance with this request will help us avoid costly unblocking bills. Many thanks.
DOUBLE DOORS SECURITY Both the main entrance doors and the external doors to storeroom 1 have been left insecure during the past two weeks. The problem occurs when BOTH the doors are opened and the person locking up forgets to re-engage the recessed shootbolts on the secondary door (that's the one that doesn't get used much.). Do please ensure that those bolts are re-engaged, because without them in place the doors are insecure and we're not uninsured. Many thanks.
STORAGE OF CHAIRS AND TABLES There's a photograph on the internal door to Storeroom 1 showing you how to stack the chairs and tables when putting them back. You'll see that it's one row of chairs with a maximum of 6 chairs in a stack. The rest go into Storeroom 2. For some odd reason we end up with two rows, 8 and 4 in a stack, not enough chairs or too many! This causes obstruction in already crowded Storerooms, which we've then got to sort out. This probably happens because lots of people very kindly help out at the end of an event and simply do their thing to get the job done quickly. We would politely ask that the hirer checks the 'putting away' has been done properly before locking up. Many thanks.
More Jobs Done!
These last few weeks saw several more jobs completed down at the Village Hall. The old external kitchen door was replaced and, along with the new entrance, we think you would agree that the front of the hall looks a lot more attractive. Deborah and Andrew replaced nearly all of the kitchen cupboard doors and repositioned the parking sign in the front car park. Thank you both very much! Shelving has been added to the new store cupboard at the end of the hall. This cupboard (For the Social Club) will be finished during March.
Clare Bradder, the Hall's Housekeeper, continues to work her magic keeping the hall shiny and spotless and I have no doubt that we will be embarking upon a clean of the external parts of the hall when spring arrives.

The NHS has booked some additional dates at the village hall in 2025. People donating come to the hall from other parts of Cornwall, but if you would like to donate at the hall please make an appointment by calling 0300 123 23 23 or visiting their website at www.blood.co.uk

Further dates are being arranged.
NHS Eye Screening
For your information
NHS Eye Screening will be taking place during the day at the village hall (in the lounge bar) from 20th to 31st January inclusive (weekdays only)
Football Fun Factory coming to the Village Hall
Thursday 27th February 2025 sees the arrival of Jack Stevenson's Football Fun Factory at the Village Hall. Sessions will run on Thursdays (during term time) from 9am to 9.45am. The sessions are for toddlers aged 18 months to 5 years. Jack's offering a three week free trial too, so go to https://booking.thefootballfunfactory.co.uk/event/3132. to book
New Entrance Doors Installed
It's really pleasing to see the new entrance door in place at the village hall. This improvement was funded through a grant from the Government's Community Levelling up Program. In the new year (2025) we will also be replacing the external kitchen door. The new entrance door is much easier to use and it opens outwards, which is a fire safety requirement.
No Changes to Personnel at the AGM
This year's AGM was very well attended by parishioners and those that were there heard about the progress made during the past year. As is normal practice at the AGM, all the committee members stood down and then were re-elected. Mike Crisp was elected as the new Treasurer having taken over from Bill Longden a couple of months ago. The Chair, Colleen Bright, during her end of year report made a plea for volunteers to help out the Village Hall Committee with Admin tasks, such as seeking and applying for grants. She pointed out that the current committee are very much working at capacity and that it would be of huge advantage if others in the Parish could help out with specific one-off tasks. She emphasised that these volunteers need not be on the actual committee (which meets during the day) if they don't want to be. If this is something that might interest you please get in touch. The AGM was followed by the regular monthly meeting and the report for this can be found in 'Monthly Reports' in the left hand column.
A Very Busy Year at your Village Hall
2023/4 has seen one of the busiest years for a while down at your village hall. More activities are taken place; new NHS services are now available; the hall has a new car park; the Social Club has launched; storage has improved and even the Village Hall Committee themselves put on a very successful Murder Mystery event to raise funds this year. And there's more to come! For a full account of what happened at the hall during the past twelve months please take a look at the Chair's annual report...Click on Annual Reports/Constitution in the left hand column.
Annual General Meeting at the Village Hall
The Hall's AGM will take place on Monday 16th September 2024 at 6:30pm. During this meeting there will be the election of Officers and Parishioner Representatives.
Nominations to join the committee should be by email and made by Monday 9th September 2024 to Deborah Hopkinson (Secretary) on cubertvillagehall@outlook.com OR in person at the AGM
This meeting is open to all. Do come along to listen to the Chair's annual report and find out what's been happening at your village hall during the past year
Further details to follow:
Hall Storage gets Sorted
On Friday 28th June, the Village Hall Committee and other welcomed volunteers met at the Hall to make some big changes to the storage facilities. The work was needed in order to accomodate the expansion of Karen's Beauty Tips and to provide much needed storage for the upcoming Social Club.
The work began at 8am and the first thing to be done was to empty all the storerooms. Then the construction began. The old store next to Karen's place was plasterboarded, so that eventually it can be used as an extra treatment room. The Toddlers store had an old shelf removed and new racking installed to make much better use of the available space. A new cupboard was built in Storeroom 1 (straight off the hall) to accomodate the cleaner's equipment and cleaning products. Storeroom 1 and 2 were rearranged to make it easier to access hirer's equipment and storeroom 3 got more much needed racking.
All this was achieved in one day by the volunteers and at one point I counted 14 people on the job! Many, many thanks to all the people who helped out on the day.
The Hall's got a new Car Park
If you go down to the Hall today you're in for a big surprise! What a fantastic job the contractors did to provide our hall with a fantastic new car park. It looks very smart and, importantly, it's a lot bigger; making much better use of the available land. It's even been white lined and thanks goes to Rob Evans and Mike Smith (Village Hall Committee) for working out how to achieve the maximum number of parking places for the available space. As you will know, we use the car park for viewing the annual fireworks display and without the potholes and uneven surface we can say goodbye to all those trips hazards and pools of water! Enjoy your new parking experience!

The Murder Mystery Fundraising Event is a big success!
Saturday 1st June saw sixty-five amateur sleuths descend upon our village hall to solve a most dastardly murder. During the break they enjoyed a pasty and a pudding and at the end of the evening the clever few who had managed to solve the crime were rewarded with certificates and chocolates. There was some great feedback and several people have asked to do it all again next year. See the write-up on our Facebook page. The event raised £530.03, which will be used to maintain the hall and its facilities.

Your Village Hall Still Needs Your Help
This is a message from Colleen Bright, Chair of the Village Hall Committee:
"The Village Hall is a great facility, which is currently undergoing further necessary improvements aimed at ensuring it will be there to serve the community for many years to come.
And what a busy time it is for us at the moment! This year we're raising the Hall's ceiling; the car park is being resurfaced and re-lined to maximise car parking spaces; the social club is being developed and we're planning more social events at the Hall.
In overseeing the day-to-day running of the Hall, the volunteers on the committee work very well together to do what is needed. What we could really do with, however, is more help with the administrative and financial tasks we have. Do you have these skills and are you able to spare a few hours each month to help the Village Hall Committee? If so, we would love to hear from you. Perhaps you would like to come along to the next committee meeting to see what it's all about and meet the committee members?"
If you think this is something for you, or you would like to know more about us then please contact us using the email below. We would love to hear from you!

Work Starts on the Social Club
Those of you who have visited the Hall recently will have noticed that work has begun to transform the kitchen and old committee room. When completed, the committee room will become the lounge and the enlarged kitchen will double up as the serving bar and the hall's kitchen. The work is challenging because it has to be done by volunteers when the hall is not in use. The Social Club Committee is hoping that the work will be complete before the middle of July.

Your Village Hall Needs You!
The Village Hall Management Committee is looking for some volunteers who would like to help us on the committee.
We are particularly interested in someone who has financial, accounting or administrative skills. In addition we require someone who can source and apply for funding for various projects that are needed to keep the building in good repair.
We are a friendly bunch of committed parishioners whose aim is to ensure the Village Hall is well-maintained and financed for the benefit of our local community.
If you think this is something for you, or you would like to know more about us then please contact us using the email below. We would love to hear from you!

Village Hall Lottery Tickets Available Now!
_______________________________________
March 2024
Now that Kath Harrison has retired from the Village Hall Committee, Deborah Hopkinson has taken over the operation of the lottery. Deborah can be contacted on (01637) 830909. The Village Hall Lottery raises a very important part of the funding required to maintain your hall and we take this opportunity to say a big thank you to all of you who have continued to support us by buying those tickets each year. As it happens, it's that time of year again when we ask our supporters to renew their tickets and so, if you get a phone call, or a knock on the door, we do hope you will be able to do so. If you have never held Village Hall Lottery tickets before and would like to do so please contact Deborah or any member of the Village Hall Committee who can make it happen.
Good Luck everyone!

Social Club Progress
Members of the Village Hall Committee and the Social Club Committee met together at the Village Hall on Wednesday 6th March to talk about the proposed kitchen and committee room alterations needed in order to create a social club at the hall. It was a positive meeting and it was agreed for the social club to take the next step and make an application for a club premises certificate. After the application is submitted, Cornwall Council's Licencing Department will require us to put up notices at the hall inviting comments. The Parish Council and other statutory bodies will be consulted and all of this will take a minimum of 28 days, so probably longer. Watch this space for further updates.

Social Club Proposal Meeting Takes Place
A meeting of the newly formed Social Club Sub-Committee took place on 15th February at the Village Hall. About 45 parishioners attended, including members of the Village Hall Committee and the Parish Council. A show of hands of support was requested and all, but the two formal bodies, voted in favour of the Social Club's proposals. The two formal bodies did not cast a vote, because the Village Hall Committee has to further consider the proposal before giving permission to carry out any works and the Parish Council, being a statutory consultee, will consider the matter separately should a Club Premises Licence be applied for.
A further meeting is taking place between the Social Club and the Village Hall Committee very soon and progress will be reported here.

Social Club has Launched its
Facebook Page
On 7th March the Social Club launched its Facebook Page called 'Cubert Social Club'. Do please go to the page and show your support by joining, liking, commenting, sharing etc. At the time of writing there are 35 members since it went live last night, so a pretty good reaction. As of 31st May there are now 119 members!

Social Club Proposal Meeting
Thursday 15th February at 7:30pm at the
Village Hall
Tony Savage and Colin Mortlock have been putting together some proposals to form a start-up social club at the Village Hall. They will be using this meeting to inform local parishioners about their ideas and to gain support. Do pop along to hear what they've got to say, ask questions and offer support. Members of the Village Hall Committee will also be in attendance. The Village Hall Committee has been in consultation with Tony and Colin prior to the calling of this meeting, but, as yet, no decisions to go ahead or begin any work have been made. However, Tony and Colin have begun to form a Social Club Committee and have called this public meeting, which were prerequisites of the Village Hall Committee. See also the 'Cubert Parish Social Club' page
