Polish Your Pavoni!

Chrome

In a word DON'T

Please try to resist the temptation of scrubbing off any stains such as coffee splashes or dried milk solids, (Brillo pads, scotchbrite, kitchen plastic scrubber, JIF cleanser- anything that is at all abrasive) The best way to look after the chrome finish is to wipe after use with a damp cloth. Careful if it is still hot, but the steam produced when the cloth contacts the boiler helps to remove the staining. If you do it often you don't get a build up.

However we are not always that good - I know I'm not. So what to do? A soft wood lollypop stick or coffee stirrer can help remove things like melted plastic (bread wrappers are favourite) and other caked on build up. You can try scrunched up aluminium baking foil lubricated with washing up liquid, but do try it on an inconspicuous area before using (some machine seem to have a softer chrome than others) Finish off with the wet cloth on a hot machine as above. When cool, wipe with a soapy cloth to remove grease and polish with a soft cloth.

If it gets to a point where there is no other alternative, a small amount of chrome polish works really well.(whatever you use, it must be none abrasive. Don't use any metal polish while the machine is still hot or leave it to dry on the chrome)

A great time to clean the chrome is if you have to remove the chrome or painted base. After removing all the wiring and element, let the boiler and other chrome parts soak in biological washing powder and water overnight. A dish washer on an intensive program will leave them sparkling. If it is still marked, just soak again, but for longer. I always do this if I am refinishing the base.

If you do this, your chrome will stay as good as the day you bought it - well almost....
