THE COLIN HARTLEY MEMORIAL PHOTOGRAPHIC COMPETITION

Rules for 2024, digital format submission:

The subject of the Annual Photographic Competition is any aspect of Natural History, which is defined as animals, plants and fungi in their natural environment.

Entrants must be current members of Wollaton Natural History Society having paid the full annual membership fee.

Images should have been taken in the British Isles in the 12 month period prior to the entry date, which will be the September meeting of Wollaton Natural History Society.

Entrants may enter up to three digital images in jpeg format. There is no restriction on the physical dimensions of images (i.e. the shape), which can therefore be portrait, landscape, or square.

The preferred method of entry is by email to photocompwnhs@gmail.com

Otherwise, an SD card or any type of digital storage hardware can be handed to any Committee Member.

Each entry should include the competitor’s name, an image title, location and date taken. This can be provided within an email, or in a separate document, or handwritten.

Ownership and copyright of all images will remain with each competitor, but it is a condition of entry that images may be shown by the Society to members, and that they may be showcased on the Society’s Facebook page and website (with credits), and for possible future publicity.

An independent judge will be invited to judge the unidentified images between the September and October meetings of the Society. The best image from each entrant will be judged against each other and placed in order of merit. There will be cash prizes for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, highly commended and commended. No competitor will receive more than one award.

A selection of images will be shown to the Society after the A.G.M. at the October meeting, when the judge will be present to comment and give feedback. The judge will then announce his/her selection of the winning entries, and the Society will confirm the names of the winners.

The overall winner will be presented with the Colin Hartley Memorial Shield at the December meeting of the Society and will retain the Shield for the next 9 months.
