March 2023:  So much has happened since the North Wales Jamaica Society linked with the newly established Pennants Community Development Committee in 2021. We established the Jamaica Wales Alliance Steering Group, now Chaired by Coy Roache. We thank H.E. Seth George Ramocan, the Jamaican High Commissioner in UK and his wife, now the JWA Patron, Dr Lola Ramocan. We meet every week on Zoom at 9am in Jamaica - you are invited to join us - contact lizmillman@yahoo.co.uk or via Contact Us

Greatful thanks also go to members of May Pen Rotary Club for not giving up, and also the Rotary Clubs in Gwynedd for the support provided, and those around the world who have taken an interest in this project. Now we also recognise the Pennants Rotary Community Corps, under the Presidency of Tothneilia Ellis.

More news soon on this.

March 2020:

This photo was taken when the children returned to John Austin All Age School in Pennants after the Christmas holidays and were looking forward to 2020.

Sadly the school had to be closed because of Covid 19 before Easter. Principal, Mr Williams, and the staff developed plans and practical actions to enable the children to return to school in September.

However, national restrictions imposed because of Covid spread, mean the children are still not back at school and a regime of learning from home by phone, has had to be returned to.

However the school is now ready for children to return on a shift system basis, but the buildings and furniture are still in poor repair and termites have further damaged much of the wooden classrooom desks and chairs. New tables and chairs are urgently needed that are easy to clean and sanitise.

Sept 2019  -  The children at John Austin All Age School met with Jamaican poet, Yasus Afari, to start work on the 'Building Bridges' project which is part of the Jamaica Wales Alliance initiative.

June 2017 - This picture was taken outside John Austin All Age School in Pennants, Clarendon during Liz Millman's visit to the school.

Left to right: Back Row: Cllr Milton Brown, the School Principal at the time, Mrs Clover Clarke Bailey.

Front: Miss Rob in Welsh hat, School Governor; Mrs Gordon; Clover's two daughters; plus Tan and Moog, the two Welsh Dragons; Jennifer Williams, in Welsh hat, who is one of the greatest supporter of this project, as well as a sister and long time friend, and Liz Millman (nee Williams) from Learning Links International and the Jamaica Wales Alliance project.

2010 - Birmingham School Head Teacher, Jonathan Green; Chair of PTA, Leonora Headley;Liz Millman, Director of Learning Links International; Miss Rob, Chair of Governors; and good friend, Hirfa Kirsley Anderson.

This photo was taken on Liz's first visit to John Austin All Age School in Pennants. It was at the weekend and Miss Rob kindly showed us around and asked if we could help in any way .....  and our challenge started.
