COPPER UNDERWING MOTH : Amphipyra pyramidea (or Svensson's Copper Underwing Amphipyra berbera ?)

We are not certain about the identification of this moth. The copper colour of the underwings was not observed. However it appears to match the online sources. The difference between the copper underwing moth and its similarly named Svensson's copper underwing moth were only asserted in the 1980s. What also gives us doubts is that the sources suggest that the former is not found this far north. Our example was found in Ardoch in July 2025. The overall shape and the way it forms a fairly equilateral triangle suggests to us that, by contrast to the narrower latter, that we are right.

The adults fly from August to October and visit both sugar and light.
The larvae feed on a range of trees and shrubs, mainly oak (Quercus). [UK Moths].

How is that for camouflouge? This one was found in Ardoch in July.
