CLAN receives £35,500 from Aberdeen and North East Scotland Rotarians
03 March 2010

The fund-raising efforts of over 300 Rotarians from 21 Rotary Clubs were recognised today (3rd March) when a cheque for £35,500 was presented to CLAN (Cancer Link Aberdeen & North).

Tickets for the 2009 charity car raffle were sold by Rotarians and CLAN supporters at various north-east events, followed by a six week Rotary-staffed sales campaign at Aberdeen’s Bon Accord Centre. Tickets were sold until Christmas Eve, when the draw was made by the Aberdeen Lord Provost Peter Stephen. The lucky winner of the Mini One car was Mrs Constance Wood of Aberdeen.

In presenting the cheque to CLAN, Rotary’s Assistant District Governor Ewen Hatchwell said “Sincere thanks are due to everybody who bought tickets at the various events, as well as the thousands of shoppers from the City, Shire, Highlands & Islands and further afield who supported our car raffle in the Bon Accord Centre”.

Debbie Thomson, Chief Executive of CLAN, thanked the Rotarians for their outstanding efforts and said “This huge donation is very gratefully received and it will go towards the “CLAN 123” campaign which takes us that bit closer to achieving our £3 million fundraising target for a new cancer support centre in Aberdeen”.

In addition to the £35,500 donation to CLAN, the Rotarians raised a further sum of almost £21,000 for a wide range of other charities chosen by each of the 21 Rotary Clubs involved in the car raffle.
