FOOD AND SUPPLIES

Argyll’s economy is reliant on tourism, farming and fish farming.  It would really help this rural economy if you would shop locally and purchase most of your supplies while you are here rather than bringing everything with you.

LOCAL SHOPS

Ardfern Village Shop (approximately 4 miles) Tel:  01852 500298 supplies newspapers and has a good selection of basic supplies.

Kilmelford Post Office and Village Store (5 miles) Tel:  01852 200271 supplies newspapers and basic groceries.  The Quaich Café is above the shop and serves simple home cooked meals during the day.

Barbreck Farm Shop on the way to Ardfern (4 miles)  There’s always something new at the shop. Not just the full current range of Barbreck meat products but also the latest ‘experiments’. They stock fruit and vegetables (in season), free range eggs and home baking, as well as delicious smoked fish, local cheeses, a range of preserves and a small selection of books and crafts.

O-Fish-Shell in Ardfern Tel:  01852 500604 sells shell fish straight from the holding tanks.  Times vary but if the sign is out by the roadside you can go in and choose your lobster or crab from the tanks.

SUPERMARKETS

The two  towns nearest to Traighuaine Ard are Oban (20miles/32km) and Lochgilphead (17miles/27km) with Oban being the largest centre of the two. 

In Oban there is a large Tesco and Co-op, a Lidl’s and an Aldi’s.  You can order a Tesco delivery to the apartment. There is also a delicatessen, specialist farm food shop, fishmonger, butchers and a sea-food stall on the pier. 
In Lochgilphead there is a medium sized Co-op and a small Tesco Express, a delicatessen, a fish shop and a butcher’s.

GENERAL SHOPPING

There's a good mix of shops and Oban is a pleasant town in which to shop or just wander around.
