Traighuaine Ard is on the beautiful West Coast of Argyll, 20miles/32km south of Oban and 17miles/27km north of Lochgilphead.

Once you reach Oban or Lochgilphead it’s best not to rely on your Satnav.  Satnavs have been known to direct people via single track, loch-side roads as the shortest (but not quickest) route as the crow flies!  Follow the directions below once you reach Oban or Lochgilphead.

From the South via Lochgilphead (approximately 2¼ hours drive from Glasgow, ½ hour drive from Lochgilphead)

Take the M8 through Glasgow and exit at Junction 30 signed to Erskine Bridge.  

Cross the Erskine Bridge (from here it is approximately 93miles/150km to Traighuaine Ard). 

Veer left shortly after the bridge onto the A82 signed to Crianlarich.   Stay on the A82 until Tarbet (27miles/43.5km from Erskine Bridge). 

Travel straight through Tarbet where the road becomes the A83 signed to Campbeltown.  

At Lochgilphead (48miles/77km from Tarbet) take the A816 North signed to Oban (Traighuaine Ard is approximately 17miles/27km from Lochgilphead). 

Getting close – approximately 16.5miles/26km from Lochgilphead, after a steep, twisty descent the road flattens out and you will pass the sign post to Croabh Haven (don’t turn off) and then you will see the sea beside you on the left.  Traighuaine drive is approximately .8 of a mile/1.3km from the Craobh Haven road end.  There’s a "Traighuaine" signpost set back from the road and two large wheelie bins against the fence.  Traighuaine Ard is approximately 300 meters from the A816 and is the highest house at the top of the drive.

From the North via Oban (approximately ½ an hour from Oban)

From Oban, take the A816 South signposted to Lochgilphead and Campbeltown.  Drive through Kilmelford (15miles/24km from Oban) and through Arduaine (18.5miles/29km from Oban).  The Traighuaine road end is approximately ½ a mile/.8 of a km south of Arduaine on the A816 and is the first turn off on the left after Arduaine (the sea will be on your right).  There’s a “Traighuaine” signpost set back from the road and two large wheelie bins against the fence.  Traighuaine Ard is approximately 300 meters from the A816 and is the highest house at the top of the drive.

Please Note

Although you can get to Oban by coach, train or sea-plane you really do need a car to make the most of your holiday.  Unfortunately, public transport in this area is very limited.  If you plan to fly into Edinburgh or Glasgow, you can hire a car from any of the major car hire firms.  If you plan to arrive in Oban by public transport, you can hire a car from:-
