LLI 'Building Bridges of Friendship' Project
The aims of ‘Building Bridges of Friendship’ are to develop the friendship and Civic links that are becoming more established between the Bangor, North Wales and Clarendon, Jamaica, and to increase understanding of our shared history.
For the past 10 years, the Learning Links International team and the Bangor City Council have been working together, along with the National Trust, the North Wales Jamaica Society and other community groups, schools and organisations to establish the foundations for this project.
The activities planned for the Taith project are a preparatory visit to Jamaica by the 2 project leaders, followed by group mobilities of 7 days from North Wales to Jamaica, and additional visits from Jamaica to North Wales, with all participants registered learners on the Learning Links International innovative blended learning course 'Exploring the shared history of Jamaica and Wales’.
In Jamaica we link with the Institute of Jamaica / Jamaica Memory Bank through regular Zoom meetings to explore our significant shared history.
Applications from underrepresented groups will be prioritised, giving life-changing opportunities for adult learners taking part in these cultural exchanges.
The exchange visits aim to bring the greatest impact, making this difficult history better understood.
