 Wanted - a Nifty Pianist

A item on Cllr.Janet Dudley's website says that a pianist is wanted for the Waunceirch Owain Glyndwr Nifty Club that meets on Wednesday afternoons.   Prior to Christmas a choir was formed, which was so successful that they went around several retirement homes to entertain and give out Christmas gifts.

Looking ahead to the future it is thought that with a keyboard player to provide the backing, the choir could bring more happiness to others.  If anyone could help perhaps they could phone Cllr.Dudley on: 01639 635908.

We are starting a new women's sports team in Neath Port Talbot called Roller Derby a full contact sport and wondering if you could help us by putting something in your news section as we are just starting out.

Our first training session is this sat 10-12 in Hengwrt Barn, Briton Ferry and then every sat there after, it would be great to get some local support.

Thanks Hazel NPT Roller Derby

Save the Empire
08 January 2012

Let's Save the Empire

Cllr Tony Wyn-Jones of Bryncoch South has started the ball rolling with the Empire building in the Rope Walk, Neath.

Cllr.Wyn-Jones shares the view of many residents that the building would make an ideal community centre - something that is sadly missing in Neath's town centre.   The fact that the building is near a densely populated area makes it an attractive location to benefit many residents.

Another thought is that the building could accommodate Neath's own community radio station, in addition to providing some much needed jobs.

Will a caring Labour controlled council support the idea?  With council elections in the month of May, it could be a testing time!

Application to Demolish Neath Empire

Empire Demolish Application

From this

To this ?

NPT Council Planning Department has received an application from Coastal Housing Swansea to demolish the Neath Empire Cinema/Bingo Hall and replace it with 12 social housing flats.

Many residents think that this building could be put to better use to serve the residents of Neath.   Some suggestions include a fitness centre, a youth cutural and entertainment centre or a multi-purpose community centre.  These uses would be ideal in the densely populated area with residents living within walking distance.

The community as a whole could benefit from this ready made building as opposed to owners of just 12 flats.

There is an opportunity for residents to oppose this building application on the council website.

You can read more about the Empire from the item in the MENU.
