VICTORIA GARDENS

See Newletter below photo

A VICTORIAN gem in the heart of Neath town centre has been restored to its original glory at a cost of more than £2 million.

Long-cherished plans to rejuvenate Victoria Gardens went ahead after Neath Port Talbot Council was awarded a £1.4 million grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

I can not believe where the time has gone since I sent out the last Victoria Gardens newsletter. Firstly, may I thank all of you who attended our ‘Right Regal Party’ back in May, the day was a massive success and I have had lots of positive feedback from both residents and local businesses. In order to remember the jubilee celebrations which took part in Neath during that time an exhibition of photographs from the various events will be on display in Victoria Gardens Community Building from Tues 10th July until the 27th July. Please come along spot yourself enjoying the festivities!

Our regular Saturday afternoon performances are to continue throughout the summer until the 9th September with the National Bandstand Marathon which will be a 4 hour show.  I have attached our latest poster for forthcoming events between July and the end of September, however since having this printed a number of other events have been added which include:-

Wed 25th July 10am – 10.45 am  & 11.15 – 12pm Join our Arborist on a guided tree trail around the gardens to find out more about our wonderful selection of trees.
Mon 10th  - 16th September  - Cimla Art Group has an exhibition of water colours, pen & ink and pastels on display in the community building.

If you have ever visited the gardens and wanted to know the names of all the trees then the above guided tree trail is a must. We will also be running further guided walks later in the year. If you can not wait until then, you can pick up a tree trail leaflets in our community building which enables you to complete the walk unguided.  We have also introduced a walking map for the gardens; again this is available in the community building.

We are also very pleased to announce that thanks to the kind support of Neath Town Council, NPTCBC and the Heritage lottery fund we are able to bring a summer play scheme to Victoria Gardens. This is due to start on the 30th July and will run every day until the 24th August. The scheme is run by NPTCBC play works team and further information can be found on the attached poster as well as in the play works team ‘no time to be bored’ leaflet and on the NPTCBC website.

Don’t forget our regular weekly events:-

Every wed 10am – 12pm  - Internet, laptop, iPad and general computer advice sessions in the community building, thanks to Communities 2.0
Every Fri 11am – 12pm & 12pm – 1pm  - Tai Chi classes in the community building with Fair Lady Tai Chi.

I would also love to hear your feedback on the gardens its events and any suggestions which you would like to see happening in the gardens in the future.

The last thing I would like to mention is that the community building is also available to hire for private functions like family gathering, children’s parties, meetings or exhibitions and if you would like any further information please do not hesitate to contact me.

Hope to see you soon.
