16th April 2022 - NMI Re-opening!

MONDAYS

The Neath Machanics' Institute will open on 25th April with a limited service operated by West Glamorgan Archive Service staff on Mondays for the public and NAS members. Opening hours will be 09:30 to 12:30 and 13:30 to 16:45.  However, in line with the NPT and Swansea GOV risk assesments for COVID there are limits on numbers, rules for social distancing, face mask wearing and santising. Due to this PRIOR BOOKING is strongly advised.

To make a booking for MONDAYS, it’s the same system that operates in WGAS at Swansea: researchers should email westglam.archives@swansea.gov.uk, or phone during the week before on 01792 636589, stating if possible which documents you would like to see.

Please note : One-to-one support at the family history computers will not be possible under the social distancing restrictions.

THURSDAYS

Due to staffing issues at WGAS there will be no Family History facility on Thurdays until further notice.  However, limited access to the NAS archive will be available on THURSDAY MORNINGS between 09:30 and 12:30.  This will be for NAS MEMBERS ONLY  and will follow the risk assesment rules as listed above.  There will be restricted numbers in force, but pre-booking is NOT required.  This service is operated by NAS volunteers for the present.

7th April 2022

With restrictions being eased in most areas the Society is pleased to announce that it is able to restart the programme of lectures.  These will be held in the Old Town Hall as previously and will follow the Covid rules currently operated by Neath Town Council.  The timetable is posted under the tab on the left hand menu.  To make up for all that has been lost in the pandemic there are EXTRA events for MAY and JUNE for this year ONLY.  Following these the Society will return to its normal lecture schedule that runs from September to May.

We look forward to seeing faces both old and new.  As before NAS members are admitted free and non-members will be charged £3 for entry.

Those of you who have paid their subscription from April 2020 will have their period of membership extended by a year to 31st March 2022.  Those who have not yet paid should do so as soon as possible to comply and avoid any break in membership.  The addresses of both the Treasurer and the Secretary are on the back of the previous programme card. You may send subscriptions to either officer.

Even though the 'normal' activities of the Society are suspended, certain members of the committee will continue to work behind the scenes to maintain the Archive, the Website and answer any enquiries that come in. It is to be hoped that life will soon return to normal so that plans to celebrate our centenary can be put in hand.

Meanwhile, in addition to the monthly update of articles etc. the website will include any further information on the status of the Society, so please visit it regularly.
