July 2021 - Being as difficulties are continuing regarding new variants with the virus, the Society has reluctantly decided to further postpone the Lecture Programme. The situation will be monitored, but it is unlikely that things will change before 2022.
To all our members and website visitors
It has been a very strange and anxious year for us all.
In light of continuing uncertainty over the progression of the pandemic, the Society has reluctantly had to reconsider how it will operate in the foreseeable future. This is only the second time in approaching one hundred years that it has been in this position (the first being during the years of the Second World War).
We had hoped to offer a full programme of lectures this year but sadly this has not been possible. At the moment we are unable to say when lectures will resume. All will depend upon the lifting of restrictions by the Government and conditions imposed by the Council.
The AGM usually held in May has been cancellecd for the second year running, but the Secretary will be mailing a newsletter and balance sheets to all members in early May.
Those of you who have paid their subscription from April 2020 will have their period of membership extended by a year to 31st March 2022. Those who have not yet paid should do so as soon as possible to comply and avoid any break in membership. The addresses of both the Treasurer and the Secretary are on the back of last year's programme card. You may send subscriptions to either.
Even though the 'normal' activities of the Society are suspended, certain members of the committee will continue to work behind the scenes to maintain the Archive, the Website and answer any enquiries that come in. It is to be hoped that life will soon return to normal so that plans to celebrate our centenary can be put in hand.
Meanwhile, in addition to the monthly update of articles etc. the website will include any further information on the status of the Society, so please visit it regularly.
