EXTRASCelebration of Chinese New Year at a member's home near Louth. Feb 2025 What a wonderful time we all had, celebrating the Chinese New Year in such a very welcoming home. It was marvellous to see so many of our IWA friends taking up the invitation. What a delightful story of how the Chinese Zodiac originated, presented with a great deal of humour and enthusiasm. Needless to mention the fantastic array of dishes that was displayed for everyone to enjoy. IWA members and some partners made it a very special celebration filled with warmth, gaiety and positivity. The organisers are very heartened by the huge show of support from the gaily-attired friends, (in red/shades of red as per the dress code request]. Everyone did look very joyous, bright and happy in their outfits. 2024 Summer Collage afternoon. A few of us enjoyed a fun afternoon collaging scraps of paper . Here are three results from MG, DC and SB. 2024 Our re-arranged late August visit to Gunby hall was a great success. We enjoyed a "personalised" tour of the grounds with an expert guide who informed us about the House and estate and its fascinating family history. After a mostly pic-nic lunch in the courtyard we had a group visit inside the house completing an interesting and sociable day out. Many thanks to GC for organising the event. 2024 6th June Visit to Ludney garden, North Somercotes This sunny afternoon found 15 of us visiting a large garden that was started just 12 years ago. The garden is arranged in a series of “rooms”, each with a feature: a pagoda, a large pond, a traditional rose garden, a covered bench, a scented pergola, a wild patch… The manicured lawns offer an attractive contrast to the beds where mature trees and bushes mingle with common and less well-known flowering plants and where shapely box hedges frame seating areas. At the centre of the garden is the oak-clad extension of the original house, a very tasteful addition to what is a very beautiful and well-tended garden. We were guided by our hostess, Jayne Bullas, along the many paths. The work Jayne has done over the years to create and manage this garden is nothing short of gargantuan. “It is a full time job” she explains, but she is helped by a gardener and her daughter who, incidentally, bakes the cakes that visitors are offered with tea and coffee. We felt very fortunate to be able to enjoy this garden, at leisure and with friends. 2023 We have held a couple of informal art/craft gatherings in members' homes this summer. In August some of us spent the afternoon tearing up magazines to make collages and in September we enjoyed a delicious lunch and an afternoon learning about beading from a member who is an expert [and very patient]. Below are a few of our results.
