 Winter Event - January 2024

Our 2024 Winter Event was a lunch at the Golf Club Restaurant at Kenwick, Louth on Sunday 7th January 2024. Thirty members attended which meant that we were given a room to ourselves - just as well considering the high volume of our conversations. Howard at Aquavita Catering  provided a generous "carvery" for the main course and extraordinarily indulgent desserts. It was lovely to see so many of us gathered, some beautifully dressed up for the occasion and for newer members to meet the rest.

January 2023

Our January 2023 Winter Event was a celebratory meal at The Priory Hotel in Louth. This was not only be our post-festive season/new year gathering but will also marked 35 years of Louth IWA.

Our early 2018 Winter Event was a meal in Louth's Marrakesh restaurant on Sunday 14th January.

Winter Party on Sunday 8th JANUARY 2017 - Once again we aimed to take the stress out of the Winter Party [and call it an "Event" instead]. See report under "Meeting Reports"

Winter Party January 2016

The IWA opened 2016 with a meal at the Istanbul Restaurant in Louth and it was good to see friends and their partners again. We aimed at taking the stress out of arranging the “Winter Party” and this was largely successful, with a shared starter and hot, tasty food efficiently served.

Winter Party 2015

The January 2015 Winter Party was held at a member’s home. This is one of the monthly meetings that is shared with family and friends making for a warm and convivial evening in very pleasant surroundings. A caterer, Maureen Robinson, prepared a delicious meal and amply provided for thirty people.

Winter Party 2014

 Good Fun Had By All

The Louth International Women’s Association entertained husbands, friends and each other at their annual party on Friday 10th of January.  Excellent Turkish food with more traditional English puddings was enjoyed by all, as was a generous glass of wine or soft drinks according to taste and who was driving!!  Apart from catching up on gossip and old friends, a party game was organised between the courses.  It was generally agreed, that a good time was had by all and that it was a fine round up of Christmas and New Year celebrations. Many thanks to the hostess and organisers.

Our next meeting, on 7th of February, is a ‘hands on’ evening when members will be knitting or crocheting a square they design themselves. Needles and wool provided, but not crochet hooks.

Winter Party 2013

We enjoyed a communal Turkish meal at the Antalya Resaurant in Louth on 11th January.

WINTER PARTY

We held the Winter Party on Friday, 6th January 2012, at Louth Golf Club for a buffet meal and a display of members' photos - prizes were awarded for most intriguing photo from a member and most romantic contribution by a member's partner.

The Louth IWA Winter Party has been celebrated in various forms over the years and usually takes the place of the January Monthly Meeting. The following report of our 2011 event is supplied by our Press Secretary, Pat Mowbray.

The International Women’s Association New Year Party.

Members of the Louth branch of the International Women’s Association, along with some brave male partners, enjoyed a delightful New Year celebration at the Louth Golf Club last Saturday.  Welcoming everyone, the chairwoman, Susan Banks, introduced everyone to a photo display.  These were pictures brought by members to show their personal or cultural identity.  Many were pictures from childhood. For example, one member brought a photo of her French schoolroom, another of herself as an Angel at a Spanish religious ceremony, and another of herself and her brother in London after their escape from Nazi Germany on the Kindertransport. Another member made a collage of images from Russia.  They were all very intriguing, and members had great fun trying to match picture and owner.

A very tasty buffet was provided by the caterers at the Golf club and a most enjoyable time was had by all.
