Special Helmets

Throughout it's history the London Fire Brigade has experiented with other styles of helmet sometimes intended as main issue and sometimes for special purposes.  Here are a few that I have in my collection.

Hendry Metro, this was one of several samples sent to the LCC by Fire Helmet Manufacturers when bidding for the contract to supply helmets to replace the Merryweather brass helmet in 1934.

A 1949 Cromwell 2228 used by crews of Emergency Tenders they could be considered as the equivalent of todays Urban Search & Rescue helmets

A Cromwell 3871, Cromwells first foray into atruely modern fire helemt.  These were issued, in 1965,  to one watch at Lambeth Fire Station to try out.  They were not popular and were soon withdrawn.
