1995 - 2010
1996 saw the LFB looking to update the Personal Protection Systems (PPS) used by firefighters, helmets, gloves, boots and suits. They selected five examples from a selection of suppliers and equipped the firefighters of five fire stations with the selected gear. After the firefighter evaluation a decision was made as to what would make up the new standard issue.
These are the helmets chosen for the trial.

In 1998 a decision was made and the new PPS started to be issued. However it was not that simple because in the meantime a policy decision had been made to outsource the supply of all firefighting equipment, including fire engines, to AssetCo from whom the Brigade then leased it all back.
This had the effect of delaying the issue of the new PPS to firefighters until 1999/2000. The helmet chosen to tale the LFB into the new millennium was the Cromwell F600.

2010 saw yet another change of PPS and the issue of a new type of helmet, the MSA Gallet F1E Type B.
