1974 - 1994

In 1974 the Home Office required that all fire helmets would now be either yellow or white, yellow for Firefighters, Leading Firefighters and Sub Officers and white for all other Officers.  Many helmets were simply re-painted and some withdrawn and new ones issued.

For the LFB also came a new policy, from this point on all new fire helmets issued would be Cromwell F135 County helmets, no more LFB or Middlesex pattern helmets would be issued.  The only variation to be seen would be in which of the two styles of County you received, either a round peaked or a pointed peaked version.

1989/90 saw the introduction of a new helmet and the very first non-British made helmet to be used by the Brigade, the Pacific F3BK1.  This was an entirely new concept in helmet design for British firefighters, having a Kevlar shell, a removable impact liner and, the first to be issued a visor fitted as standard.
