Lychgate Orchard

This patch of land, between Coach Lane and Church Row, was developed and maintained by EPICH on behalf of Hurworth Parish Council between 2017 and October 2021 as a wildlife corridor and part of the national hedgehog highway.  The Parish Council gave up its duty of care in October 2021

Originally part of Home Farm, this patch of land is no longer an orchard but a stand of Lime Trees.  A wide range of flora and fauna call this little patch of land home, and during the time when the Parish Council had a duty of care for it, EPICH established a grass path through the wild flowers, added native flowers such as bluebell, foxglove, violet, and forget-me-not from time to time, and installed a variety of bird, owl, and bat boxes.  Habitat piles for hedgehogs were introduced in 2017.
