I've just heard that John Walling died on 17th July. He was 88 years old.

John was the instigator of the 'modern' run of Gang Shows in Burton, having produced the 1968 and 1969 shows and inspired the rest of us to carry on.

John arrived in Burton with his job, from his native Atherstone. He had been involved with the Atherstone Gang Show before coming to Burton and it wasn't long before he approached the District Commissioner with his proposals for a Burton show.

He lived in Stretton, and was also appointed Group Scout Leader of 18th Burton (Stretton) Scout Group.

John worked for an insurance company and he moved on away from Burton after a few years.

In his retirement he lived in Grimsby, and got involved with the RSPB.

Unfortunately we heard of his death too late to be represented at his funeral.
