REPORT   =   ARNALLT OWEN 2 WOOD PAIRS TOURNAMENT 2023

The Inaugural tournament was a great day for the club in memory of a true gentleman and top bowler Arnallt Owen.

The Chairman, Nigel George welcomed all visitors and competitors to the Club at the outset and hoped that all would enjoy their day.

He wished to record the Club’s thanks to Arnallt’s family and in particular his sons Michael and Malcolm whose support and sponsorship of the event had assisted greatly in ensuring the event took place.  30 pairs had entered the tournament from all over South Wales and everyone was looking forward to it being a successful day.

The eventual winners of the main tournament were Jack Breen of Harlequins B.C. (Aberdare) and Chad Bowling of Graig Merthyr B.C. and who defeated Dion and Kieran Peregrine of Tenby B.C.  in an entertaining and closely fought final.  Congratulations to both pairs on reaching the Final.

 

The Plate competition was won by Chris Williams of Dinas Powis B.C. and Colin Davies of Carmarthen B.C. who defeated Barbara and Jeff Griffiths of Llanelli B.C. in another excellent final.

The presentations were presided over by the Chairman, Nigel George and he wished to record the Club’s thanks to all the sponsors for their support of the event, namely Arnallt’s family, Carmarthen Town Council and Castell Howell Foods Ltd.

He thanked all the Club Members that had ensured the whole day was a success i.e. those who prepared the Green, those who set up the Green, both Umpires, Bar staff, those who came to support the event and of course the ladies who worked tirelessly throughout the day and the Tournament Organiser, Colin Davies.

Michael Owen presented The Arnallt Owen Perpetual Cup and the first prize of £500.00 to the Winners and the prizes and trophies to the Runners Up and the losing Semi Finalists.  He thanked the Club for staging the Tournament in his father’s memory and was sure he would have been very proud to know that the Club had honoured him in this way.

President of the Club David St John presented the Plate and prizes to the Winners and Runners Up.

The Chairman concluded the day by conveying Cllr. Wyn Thomas ,Carmarthen Town Mayor’s apologies for being unable to stay for the presentations but he did ask him to say that he had thoroughly enjoyed the time he had spent at the Club that afternoon and hoped that the event would continue to be as successful in future years.

 

The Chairman wished everybody a safe Journey home.
