The day started with a good meaty Bacon Cob. The Chef had thoughtfully catered for a vegetarian by ommitting the Bacon from one Cob, and when told we were all carnivores she replaced it with three Bacon Cobs, what a star! Following on from the last match where silver stubble seemed to be 'de rigueur', it was interesting to note that all but Spanner and Steve (photo below) had shaved proving; to me at least, that vanity prevails. Well done all you smoothies. Anyway, to the golf.
The weather forecast was not favourable, but we enjoyed a dry round with intermittent bursts of sunshine and a medium wind that was either in front or behind you. The course was picturesque and well cared for, with a number of strategic bunker hazards, blind summits in abundance, avenues of trees - some playable, and one in particular the domain of witches and wolves.
Spanner and Chris were said to be favourites coming into the comp as they are both currently enjoying a rich vein of form. I had the pleasure of accompanying Chris and was surprised at his decision process for each hole. He only hit 3 wayward tee shots and rimmed the hole a few times, which probably cost him the the match, but amazing accuracy generally, and showed me how much I have to learn, but that's another story! In the end a stirling performance by Steve Rogers nicked the win from another stirling performance by Jack by only 1 point. Steve decided against celebrating with a Club Sandwich in an effort to restore his reputation. A great venue and one to return to and recommend to other societies.
I will miss the fixture at Hallows in August due to holiday. I would appreciate it if someone can email me a report of the day, so I can update this site on my return.
