How we work out your handicap:

Initial handicaps are based on your guidance or in the event you are new to golf we allocate you the maximum handicap of 28 strokes additional to the course par. From then on your performance will influence your handicap. We have the rule that a newcomer to the society cannot win the first competition they enter. This is to establish the validity of their handicap and ensure fair play.

Your handicap places you in a group. The number of participants in any competition are split into 3 groups: -

Group A are the lowest handicapped players participating on the day

Group B are the mid-range handicapped players participating on the day

Group C are the highest handicapped players participating on the day

A neutral zone is then calculated by subtracting the best and worst Stableford points score before determining the average points score that competition. Whatever this is the neutral zone is made 4 points either side of it. For example, An average score of 28 makes for a neutral zone from 24 to 32. If you scored less than 24 then you gain fractions of a point to increase your handicap. Whilst scores above 32 would lose fractions of a point to lower their handicap.

Group A Gain or lose 0.1 of a point for every point outside the neutral zone
Group B Gain or lose 0.2 of a point for every point outside the neutral zone
Group C Gain or lose 0.3 of a point for every point outside the neutral zone

The outright match winner can also lose 1,2 or 3 points depending on his group.
