With eagerness we teed of at 10:30 in beautiful sunshine and calm air. After a week of heavy rain the course was wet and spongy in parts, so carry was limited. However, the greens were in good condition and quickened through the day. Old hands were predicting a low 30's score would win the event and how right they were. Four golfers finishing on 31 made it the closest finish in memory. Several countbacks determined Nick Stocks as the winner, who played a marvellous front 9 ending on a high whilst I ended with thigh rub! A deserved winner in my view.

The 19th hole was packed with chat and laughs, none bigger than the arrival of the most famous club sandwich that no one had heard of, but is now firmly on the map. The recipient of this feast, Steve Rogers ambled his way through it before sharing with 6 of us with hanging tongues. He thought it was worth a caption contest and came up with this offering: -
