ABOUT AROMATHERAPY
The ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans have practiced and used essential oils for many centuries and used them for all sorts of ailments and benefits. The essential oils are absorbed through the skin. The earliest written recording of herbal text can be recorded back to the Chinese. The text was called the Great Herbal (Pen Tsao) and is still in print today. It was compiled by Shen Nung, an Emperor who lived at some point between 1000 and 700 BC. Within this book he listed over 350 medicinal plants, many of which are used and are familiar today. Also amongst these were several recipes for Aromatics, used for therapeutic application and religious purposes.
It was not until the beginning of this century that a rekindling of interest in aromatherapy begun by a French Chemist, Dr R M Gattefosse. Whilst working in the laboratory he burnt his hand and plunged it into a container of lavender. The burn healed quickly without scarring and blistering. He also discovered that many of the essential oils had antiseptic properties and these, in fact, were better than the chemical materials that were currently being use. He wrote several books and continued to use essential oils in his work within military hospitals. This work was further carried on by Dr Jean Valnet, a surgeon in the French Army, who used essential oils to treat injured soldiers in the 2nd World War.

DURING AN AROMATHERAPY TREATMENT
Each session will last for approximately one hour and a quarter and a blend of essential oils and one carrier oil will be selected to meet the individual’s needs and requirements. All of the oils have therapeutic properties and can be tailor-made for illnesses or conditions of the body. Your modesty will be protected at all times with warm towels. Whilst the massage is being performed remember to breathe deeply and relax. The oils can penetrate through your skin by absorption and also by inhalation. The Aromatherapy massage technique is gentle and flowing but firm and extremely relaxing.  Massage relaxes the muscles and encourages the flow of blood and lymph around the body thus helping to dispel waste and toxins.
