Climate & Midges
Many people think of Scotland as being cold, wet, miserable and midgey. Undeniably, some parts of Scotland do get some pretty wild weather (though this often adds character!) and midges are a problem on the west coast and in some inland areas.
Fortunately for us and our guests, this part of north east Scotland is completely different from the rest of the country. It has an unusually mild and dry climate with some of the lowest rainfall and highest sunshine hours of anywhere in the UK. This whole region has even been called 'The Riviera of the North'.
This type of weather is great for the many outdoor activities we offer at Wild at Heart. We're not saying it never rains, but when it does it usually passes over pretty quickly and we rarely suffer from the endless days of grey which are so common in other parts of the UK.
This milder, drier climate also means that the biting midges which can ruin holidays in other parts of Scotland are pretty scarce here. We sometimes encounter them during excursions over to the west or inland, but here at the coast they are rarely a problem, even in the summer months.
