About Us Wild at Heart was founded in 2008 by Deborah Benham (MSc, PhD), a marine biologist, animal behaviour expert, ecotourism specialist and accredited tour guide. We are a small company based in Moray, North Scotland, offering environmentally and socially responsible holidays, short breaks, celebrations, team away days and workshops. From 2005 until 2011, Deborah worked with the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society(WDCS) in their responsible whale watch team. Here she ran the Dolphin Space Programme wildlife tourism partnership (winner of the RSPB 'Nature of Scotland' Marine Award 2012) and the WDCS marine guide training programme. She now runs Wild at Heart holidays, co-manages the Newbold House Wellbeing and Sustainable Living Centre and provides various wildlife and ecotourism training courses and consultancy services. Prior to this she completed a PhD studying sea otters and sustainable tourism in Monterey Bay, California and worked as a wildlife guide on whale watching boats. Deborah has an MSc in Marine Environmental Protection and a degree in Zoology. She is passionate about providing memorable ecotourism experiences which help people form deeper connections with nature and actively contribute to environmental understanding and conservation. The Wild at Heart Team Wild at Heart does not employ any staff but works in close co-operation with our favourite local nature guides, wildlife experts and activity providers to put together wonderful programmes. We believe in working with our community to support other passionate individuals and small businesses, forming a network of likeminded people and offering the very best 'local knowledge' experiences for our guests. Our Mission To provide enjoyable, inspiring, educational holidays for people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds, that promote understanding, appreciation and care for the natural world. Our Vision
To be industry leaders in the field of nature based tourism, leading the way in sustainability, creativity and quality. Through our holidays we hope to reconnect, or more deeply connect, our guests with nature, inspiring them in their daily lives and thereby helping to create a more sustainable future for life on Earth.
Core Values
We believe its important that our core values as individuals are reflected in our business values, and we want to share these with you so you know what we're all about.
We are full of gratitude to live in this complex and beautiful world. We believe there is reason to give thanks in every moment, and where there is reason for thanks there is reason for celebration, and we do like a good celebration!
Bounce, energy, positivity, glass half full. However you describe it, Tigger has the right idea. Just like Tigger we take a positive, optimistic outlook on life, see solutions rather than problems and have fun while we’re doing it!
Our aim is to be industry leaders in providing sustainable, inspirational tourism and we’re always looking for ways to be more environmentally and socially responsible. Whether it’s sourcing local food, supporting local businesses and communities, reducing waste, conserving energy, contributing to conservation projects or inspiring our guests, we really want to make a difference. If you have suggestions for how we can do better, please let us know.
We hope that our vision and values inspire you. We in turn have been very inspired by the work of eco-philosopher Joanna Macy and nature visionary Jon Young. | ![]() ![]() |
