Places to eat
We've eaten out at many pubs and restaurants locally. Here a list of places we've tried and had good food/service.
1. The Cornish Arms in Hayle. Good pub food. Excellent mussels, burgers and nice range of beers. 01736 753237
2. The Old Forge in Lelant/Hayle. Super Mediterranean style cooking. 01736 753696
3. The Salt Kitchen in Hayle. Just under the viaduct serving great burgers whitebait and salads. 01736 755862
4. Red River Inn in Gwithian. Mussels, burgers including a great vegan one. Very tasty. 01736 753223
5. Birdies Bistro in Lelant/Hayle. Fabulous range for meat and fish dishes. 01736 759307
6. Balti King in Hayle. A good curry with some exotic sizzling Tawa specials. 01736 752001
7. Chilli Chinese Takeway in Hayle. Very tasty fresh ingredients. 01736 755999
8. Philps pasties in Hayle. Nice crusty pastry and well seasoned fillings. If you're hungry the Large mince will keep you full all day!! Usually a long queue but with the wait.
9. Firehouse in St Ives. Lucky if you get a table but the Fillet steak is to die for! 01736 799664
10. The Bucket of Blood in Phillack Hayle. Walkable from the flats with a great story of how it got its name. The specials include Linguini, smoked mackerel, chilli con carne and we've had good reports on their steaks as well. 01736 447928
11. The Bluff Inn on the beach 5 minutes walk. Owned by the Haven Holiday Park the food is really nice and it overlooks the bay. Very busy in the summer but quieter when the schools go back. 01736 751765
12. Cove Cafe on the beach 2 minutes away. Really tasty contemporary breakfast menu and fabulous pizzas in the evening but check their opening times. 01736 754889
13. Lula Shack is a beach bar style restaurant about 15-20 minutes walk. Follow the coastal path towards Hayle. It looks out across the harbour. Very rustic indoor and outdoor seating and tasty Cajun type food. 01326 653653
14. Sunset Surf is set opposite the Gwithian car park overlooking the sea. About 45-55 minutes walk along the beach or one can drive round it serves great coffees and food. 01736 752575
if you like Fish and Chips there's a super chippy just at the entrance of the Haven Holiday Park just 1 minute away.
