Local Information and places to eat

  • Food. A Spar convenience shop is located less than 100m away. They bake fresh bread and pastries and are open all year except mid November to mid February. For more choice a large Co-op and a Lidl are located a short drive down the hill to Hayle. At the other end of Hayle is a large ASDA
  • Eating out. We have eaten at many of the local pubs and restaurants. Here are a few of the ones we have tried and return to every year. You can find locations, contact details and menus all online. A 130m walk towards the beach leads to the Cove Cafe who serve a nice breakfast and are now open for evening meals. Opening times are generally restricted to the summer months. The Bluff pub is 250m stroll and open the same months as the Spar as it is owned by the Haven Holiday Park. It is spacious inside but also has nice outdoors seating and a children's play area with views across the bay. Food orders can take up to an hour in the summer holidays but they offer a good selection. The Haven Holiday Park also has an excellent Fishnchip shop near the entrance which is only 120 meters from the apartments. The Bucket of Blood is a 25 minute walk back up the access road or across the local dunes. Food is served throughout the summer. The Red River Inn and Rockpool Cafe at Gwithian serve nice seafood and burgers and the Sunset Cafe next to the car park at Gwithian make delicious hot chocolate and milk shakes. Beyond Gwithian, on the road to Portreath, is Hells Mouth and the cafe opposite, which shares the name of this spectacular cliff top location, do a breakfast aptly entitled "One Hell of a Breakfast!". The Cornish Arms in Hayle provide some excellent pub grub and the Salt Kitchen Bar, just next to the viaduct in Hayle cook some tasty Mediterranean themed evening meals. There is often a band playing on Saturday evenings in the latter venue during the summer season. If you like quality Italian cuisine then The Old Forge in Lelant provides an atmospheric place for evening dinner. Very close is Birdies Bistro where you can eat seaford with a view across the estuary flats which are teaming with waterfowl at high tide. If you like curry then the Balti King do an excellent Dansak and The Terrace further along the High Street cook a lovely pizza with views over Hayles inner harbour pond. These are just some of the places we have been to but there are lots more restaurants and takeaways in Hayle and many of them offer a delivery service.
  • Cycle hire is available Hayle Cycles. Tel: 01736 753825
  • For pastie lovers Philps main bakery is located near the harbour.
  • A shopping mall with Costa, Next and M&S is on the main A30 roundabout at the turning off to Hayle.
  • The park and ride train at Lelant on the edge of Hayle provides a fun train ride into the centre of the historic port of St Ives where there are many art galleries, shops and many places to eat. The views from the train ride right up the bay towards Gwithian and Godrevy lighthouse are spectacular.
