Captains Prize and May Open

by Andy Burrows - 20:36 on 16 May 2010

Captains Prize 8 May

It was great to meet everyone on the 9th green at last week's Captain's prize. I think the alcohol helped some and hindered others! The 9th was quite a challenge with hard greens and wind behind .. and with the presence of an audience. Steve Reid came closest to raising an insurance claim when his ball sailed over my car ..an errant hook from the 2nd! Congratulations to Paul cameron for a fantastic round in very tricky conditions.

May Open 15th May

A (small) team from Brora played us on the Friday night before the Open. They were astounded by the quality of the clubhouse and the catering. It reminded me how lucky we are to have such a great facility to return to after playing one of the most picturesque courses in the world.

The May Open attracted 155 entries. The weather held for us and the enjoyment by visitors was evidenced by the party from Thornton who boosted the bar takings considerably (with a little help from Mark Winton and Greg Thexton). Dougal Spaven timed his 74 gross (net 65) perfectly to pocket the handicap prize (how did he ever get up to 9 handicap?). Michael Main , a Highland Open regular, returned an excellent 66 to win the scratch. He just about made it to the brief presentation before falling asleep in the clubhouse under the affluence of considerable incohol. Everyone was very well looked after by Steve and his very capable team and things bode well for future events. The course played well and was complimented by many.  Many thanks to Mark  and Craig for their help and support and also to   the members who helped on the day ..Thomas Leadbetter, Colin Milne, Dave Brain and Dave Downie , Ken, Tom Thomson and Richard Dyson.

Yours in Golf
