EARTHQUAKE REPORT

Residents living near the South Wales LNG popeline have expressed their concern about the recent earthquake in West Glamorgan (see link below for BBC report) and state that the possiblity of this happening was one of the reasons why they opposed the LNG pipeline being so near to their homes. They state that this area is one of the very few earthquake zones in the UK
The earthquake, the largest measured in South Wales for 34 years, was confirmed by seismologists.
The quake was felt at 2042 BST on Friday, 5th June 2009. with the epicentre near Nantyffyllon, 6.2 miles (10km) north east of Port Talbot.

The ITV-1 'Wales This Week' programme broadcast on 8th June 2009, highlighted some serious issues regarding the LNG pipeline running through Wales with a pressure reduction installation near Cilfrew. However, it must be stated that the programme was made before the earthquake mentioned above,

Incidents in other countries with similar pipelines are highlighted elsewhere on this website.   It is important to be aware of the dangers before anything happens here in South Wales.
