Money Talks
The latest outcome (CAPRI Newsletter No.45) indicates that money talks. Power corrupts. At least this website presents the facts for people to judge for themselves.

Let's hope that the silent majority is taking note

Public Inquiry
The Public Inquiry to decide National Grid's proposed pressure reduction installation at Tirley is to commence on Tuesday 13th July at Corse & Staunton Village Hall at 10am. All are welcome. There is no need for this industrial installation to be built and therefore it it is unnecessary and totally inappropriate. We need to protect our rural environments as the UK is only a small island and we NEED to protect it. If you care about the countryside 'BE THERE'

High Pressure.
Don't get me wrong. I am not against the pipeline because I know the need for gas. What I am against is the planned high pressure by a company who has little or no knowledge in its application.

A lower pressure would be acceptable by many who oppose the project. The high pressure is linked to the profit motive - or so it seems.

Safety before profit should be the keywords for the National Grid and all its shareholders.

People are not opposing the pipeline without a good reason - and that reason can be summed up in one word: SAFETY.

Tirley gas plant opponents raise money for barrister
TAKEN FROM BBC 9/4/10

Opponents of plans to build a gas plant at Tirley in Gloucestershire are trying to raise £35,000 to hire a barrister to fight their cause.

National Grid is appealing against Tewkesbury Borough Council's rejection of the application for the plant.

The Campaign Against Pressure Reduction Installation (CAPRI) is due to hold an emergency meeting on Saturday.

A spokesman said the group planned to raise the funds through a car boot sale and subscriptions from supporters.

The plans for the gas pressure reduction facility, which would be part of a ring handling 20% of the nation's gas, were turned down by the Forest of Dean District Council in 2006.

National Grid appealed and a public inquiry was held in 2007. The appeal was dismissed by the government, which acknowledged the national importance of the proposal.

'Wrong site'

Last year, plans to site the installation at nearby Corse were rejected and the site at Flat Farm, Tirley was selected as an alternative.

CAPRI's Joseph Gabbott said: "They have chosen the wrong site. We have won three times against National Grid and I hope we are on the eve of a fourth victory."

The meeting is due to take place at Eldersfield Lawn School, Corse Lawn at 1000 BST.

National Grid said the planned plant was vital to complete a 200-mile pipeline scheme to carry gas from its terminal at Milford Haven in Pembrokeshire.

Spokesman David Mercer said: "The compelling need for this installation has been accepted by the secretaries of state and the planning officers at Tewkesbury Borough Council acknowledged this in their report that recommended approval."

A new public inquiry is due to be held in July.

National Grid goes to appeal over gas plant refusal
One of the main concerns all along has been the safety of this pipeline. This is where we can really make a difference by opposing the PRI ever being built. If there is no PRI then the gas will have to be pumped through the pipeline at a lower pressure which will make it safer for the thousands of people living nearby. It is vital people raise their concerns about the safety of the pipe. Only a few weeks ago a natural gas pipeline exploded in the USA leaving 5 dead and dozens injured.

Taken from This is Gloucestershire website:

CAMPAIGNERS are preparing for a new battle after National Grid took its plans for a gas plant near Tewkesbury to appeal.

The company announced today that it had launched an appeal against Tewkesbury Borough Council's decision to reject its planning application.

Members of the planning committee threw out the plans earlier this month, saying the pressure reduction installation at Flat Farm, Tirley, would be a blot on the rural landscape. They were not swayed by the company saying it would help supply up to 20 per cent of the nation's gas,

After visiting the site, where they were met by placard-waving protesters, they decided the wrong location had been chosen.

See Saturday's Echo for more details of the appeal.
